Comprehensive Suicide Prevention in Minnesota

Description:

Stephanie has worked for 13 years of work in the suicide prevention field working at the local and state level. She has worked with communities to assess suicide prevention readiness and strategic planning. Stephanie has also  worked with schools on comprehensive suicide prevention and mental health planning. Lastly, Stephanie is a certified QPR-Question Persuade Refer, safeTALK, Connect Postvention and CALM-Counseling on Access to Lethal Means Trainer.

We all have a role to play in the prevention of suicide. Research has shown that there is not one single factor that leads to suicide. Addressing the complex issue of suicide requires the use of a comprehensive approach versus the implementation of one strategy or approach: taking into consideration a socio-ecological focus across individual, relationship, community, and societal levels in both public and private sectors. Participants of this session will hear how the Minnesota Department of Health and current Minnesota communities are approaching suicide prevention using a comprehensive approach.

By the end of the webinar presentation:

  • Participants will examine nine key strategies that form a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention.

  • Participants will be able to recognize two key strategies that can be applied within a community setting or system.

  • Participants will learn at least two suicide prevention efforts that are happening within Minnesota
