Description: 

This webinar will focus on what cultural humility is, why cultural humility is key to advancing health equity in public health, and will include practices to implement to advance cultural humility and community engagement.

Amy Lopez - Speaker Bio

Amy M. Lopez has worked in the public health sector for the past 25+ years, with 17 years in the non-profit sector and 8 years in state government.

She currently works at the Minnesota Department of Health’s (MDH) Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB) as Lead of the Capacity Enrichment Program. This program provides training, coaching and technical assistance for MDH staff and community partners on topics of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging.

Amy is committed to building more inclusivity and belonging in systems that oppress Minnesota’s vulnerable populations.

Amy’s passion of equity has been demonstrated domestically and globally by serving the homeless, juvenile, and adult offenders, gang members, survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking and persons that are suicidal. She brings a trauma informed lens to her work.

Amy has served diverse communities throughout her career including, communities of color, urban American Indians and Tribal Nations, and recent immigrants and refugees.

Amy earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in psychology and her master’s degree of Social Work with an emphasis in public policy, public administration, and community development. Amy has learned overtime how to bridge her social work knowledge and skills into the public health sector.

Rebecca Dennis - Speaker Bio

Rebecca W. Dennis, born in war-torn Liberia, epitomizes resilience and determination.

After relocating to the U.S., she embraced opportunities with cultural humility and is

now pursuing a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Phoenix. As an

AmeriCorps Public Health Project Coordinator, Rebecca's immigrant experience

drives her dedication to service, which she integrates through hard work and diverse

connections. Her tenacity inspires future generations. Dedicated to health equity,

inclusion, and fostering community belonging, Rebecca's transformative journey

uniquely equips her to make impactful contributions to public health. She promotes

mutual understanding across cultures through openness and a commitment to

continuous learning.
